Tolima Dolores is known as “Cafe de la Paz”, which literally means Coffee of Peace. It is an organic certified Excelso grade coffee from a cooperative called Acopaz.
Acopaz is an association of coffee farmers that includes 47 former FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) soldiers. The FARC were dismissed as a result of the historic peace agreement that took place in 2016 in Colombia. Up to date, they have exported over 150 tons of coffee under the guidance and training of Lohas Beans and governmental agencies.
This represents a milestone in the history of the country, as these were the first coffee bags ever exported, by ex-combatants.
Their certified organic coffee growers reduce the contamination of soils and water resources as well as protecting the health of their end consumers.
Farmers are trained to select only the ripe fruit and standardize pulping, fermenting, washing and drying processes to obtain consistent results.
Dry mills are also very important facilities in their model, because they control trace-ability, quality and the integrity of the product.
At Sabores we are filled with pride by supporting this wonderful peace initiative and import the “Café de la Paz” – Peace Coffee to South Africa, where we know first-hand of the joys of reconciliation and peace.
Sabores (PTY) Ltd is the only South African coffee importer to partner with Lohas Beans, the main Colombian exporter of organic and high-end coffee.
